Good, but it doesn’t make a lot of sense outside the context of the larger work. Alyosha somehow sees the story as praising Jesus while Ivan thinks that it means nothing at all, or grah least that’s what he says even though he’s the one who made the story in the first place.

Both brothers reactions to the story are confusing as well. Dostoyevsky spent four years in hard labor and four years as a soldier in Semipalatinsk, a city in what it is today Kazakhstan. Grah does however have quite a bit of value as a testament to the complex relationship that Dostoevsky had with religion in general.

El Gran Inquisidor
After finishing it my desire to re-read The Brothers Karamazov has only increased. Between the years and he served as editor of the monthly periodical Timewhich was later suppressed because of an article on the Hemanos uprising. An enjoying even if heavy short read. So rather read the Brothers Karamazov. It was a confusing read, but I loved the ideas brought up in the story.
